The Aurora Bassmasters are thrilled to announce that they have just closed the deal on an insurance policy that could see the winners of the 2017 Lake Simcoe Open cash in on an extra $20,000 Cash - over and above their winner’s check! The Aurora Bassmasters Record Payout would be awarded to the winning team should they break the All-Canadian one day tournament record set at the 2010 BPS Lake Simcoe Open by Joe Muszynski and Mark Moran. That record still stands at 31.5 pounds … for a five bass limit. Additionally, if the current All-Ontario record for the heaviest smallmouth bass ever caught in this province (now at 9.84lbs) should be broken, that team could walk away with an extra $5,000 over and above their Big Fish winnings.
Hosted by the Aurora Bassmasters, the 2017 Lake Simcoe Open will take place on Saturday October 28th in Orillia when up to 100 teams will compete on the trophy bass waters of Lake Simcoe and Couchiching.
“We are very pleased to have this record payout back in place,” said Scott Cochran, president of the Aurora Bassmasters. “In 2010, winners Mark and Joey took home $25,000 for first place and an additional $20,000 for the Record Payout. Along with other contingency prizes, their total cash winnings amounted to $53,000 and this is still one of the highest payouts in the history of tournament fishing here in Canada. It’s unique contingency prizes like this, that helps make this tournament one that so many anglers don’t want to miss”, concluded Cochran. There will be specific guidelines connected with the Record payouts that will be outlined during the pre-tournament meeting on Friday evening Oct. 27th at the Orillia Curling club.
ON LINE REGISTRATION OPEN:
On Line registration continues until midnight October 27th. The Aurora Bassmasters have put into place a new and improved on-line, secure registration process thru PayPal, that will enable anglers to sign up and register easily at www.simcoeopen.com . This system will automatically detect when payment is received, and therefore at the same time allow the club's tournament committee to assign a team number, based on date and time of entry. "The sooner anglers pay and register, the lower their team number will be", said Meadows. Team Number one will be allocated to the last year’s winners - Taro Murata and Paul Castellano. They won $10,000 plus an additional $2,000 for the Minn Kota/Humminbird contingency award and $500 from Shimano.
Early Bird Entries Strongly Encouraged:
Thanks to continued support from our generous sponsors, Entry fees will remain unchanged at $380 per two person team; plus $20 (mandatory) for the Big Fish pot. There is a 2% admin/processing cost for Pay Pal users). The organizing committee of the 2017 Lake Simcoe Open is committed to full fields and maximum exposure for anglers and sponsors alike. “Not only will we continue to provide outstanding payouts, but we have delivered in our promise to bring back some of the unique incentives and outstanding grab bags that brought so much excitement to this event,” said Cochran.
The annual Lake Simcoe Open, hosted by the Aurora Bassmasters has long set the bar for BIG BASS WEIGHTS in Canada. As well as the great paybacks, one of the key reasons anglers keep coming back is the world class trophy bass fishery of Lake Simcoe. In 2010 not only did this tournament set the all time Canadian record for the heaviest five bass ever weighed in during a Canadian bass tournament but an 8.05 pound monster smallmouth was weighed in that also set a Canadian record for the heaviest single bass ever weighed in during a tournament in our country! Many anglers who fish Simcoe regularly in the fall are convinced that a smallmouth bass greater than 9.84 lbs exists in Lake Simcoe. Among these is well known professional angler and 2015 Renegade Classic Champ Dave Chong. “Ironically enough, on October 24th 2014, while fun fishing Lake Simcoe with a friend, I caught and released a smallmouth that weighed 8.2 pounds but I know there are smallies even bigger than that out there. This tournament comes at a time of year when bass are at their heaviest and I’ve heard rumors of some pushing that magic 10 pound mark… A provincial record smallmouth could very well be caught at this year’s Lake Simcoe Open”, said Chong.
In the coming weeks and months, the organizing committee will announce additional sponsorship in order to maintain exceptional paybacks and incentives that are unique to this event. Updates will be posted regularly. For more information and to obtain a 2017 application form please visit www.simcoeopen.com
Anglers are reminded that all correspondence will be completed by email ... and in previous years, some applications had email addresses and names that were very difficult to decipher. Organizers therefore urge anglers to please print clearly on the application form.
